Preventative Care Leawood

Because of the conservative approach to dentistry that we take, preventative care is a primary focus at Dental 133.

Were your partners in achieving optimum oral health, so well take the time to educate you about prevention. Well also help you evaluate lifestyle factors that may be impacting your oral health, and let you know what you can do at home to promote optimum oral health.

Consistent Checkups and Cleanings

Preventative Dental Care Dental 133 LeawoodWe recommend a routine examination and cleaning every 6 months for most patients.

Your exam includes reviewing your medical history, an oral cancer screening (which includes a head and neck exam), and an evaluation of your teeth and gums. Our goal is to identify at-risk oral conditions as early as possible, which allows you to make an informed decision regarding your treatment options.

One of our caring and skilled dental hygienists will clean your teeth. Taking the time to remove excess plaque buildup helps prevent issues such as tooth decay and periodontal disease. Your hygienist will also take the necessary time to inform you of any areas needing a little more attention during your daily oral hygiene regimen and provide you with the knowledge on how to best maintain your natural teeth and smile.

Periodontal Health

Periodontal (gum) disease affects more than half of American adults in some form. Routine dental checkups are your first line of defense against gum disease because we screen for it every six months. When its detected in its earliest stage, called gingivitis, you may be able to prevent it from progressing further with a thorough professional cleaning and improvements to your home care routine.

Oral Cancer

Another condition best treated early on is oral cancer. Dr. Engelmann will look for any suspicious bumps, discolorations in your tissue, or lesions of concern. With thorough examinations every six months, we hope to make you aware of any concerns as soon as possible so you have the best chance of successfully treating your condition.

Tooth Decay

We use x-rays and exams to detect tooth decay in its earliest stages. With excellent brushing and flossing, tooth decay can sometimes be reversed. If left untreated, it will progress into a cavity that Dr. Engelmann will need to fill to restore your tooth.

Dr. Engelmann and our staff are always available to answer any questions you may have about avoiding future dental problems. Ideally, a little extra prevention will decrease the time and cost of addressing dental issues which may occur in the future.
